Tottenham Narrowly Beat The Spanish Side in European Return

The Tottenham boss celebrated a successful Champions League bow thanks to a costly error by the opposition shot-stopper the keeper.

With minimal challenge, the Villarreal player dropped Lucas Bergvall's delivery into his own net, presenting Spurs a ideal start.

This represented ex-Brentford gaffer the coach's first time in the competition, but Spurs faced scares at moments before the break.

An important challenge by Micky van de Ven prevented ex-Arsenal winger Pepe from finding the net, while Buchanan fired a shot wide.

But only a save by Junior denied the hosts from scoring a another when he blocked the midfielder's strike.

The Spanish team pushed forward in the latter period, but Spurs held strong to keep out them.

The Brazilian could have done better with a opportunity as Spurs looked for a security goal, but finally it was not needed.

Review: Spurs Unconvincing but Defending Stands Out

It proved to be the victory the club desired on their reappearance to the European stage, but it was far from a ideal display.

The keeper's regrettable mistake gave the supporters excited and could have been the foundation for a dominant showing, but that failed to materialise.

The team's beginning to the term has been strong, with eye-catching wins against one opponent and City, but there was also a disappointing display in a defeat to another side.

The team displayed more comparisons to that match with some poor phases of play and loose passes whenever they attacked.

Despite that, their defending was strong with the defender and Bentancur making key tackles, particularly in the later stages.

Success means the club are now unbeaten in their last 21 fixtures in their stadium in European competitions.
