'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith continues contest with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the thrilling dying seconds of his team's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses amid the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative shot from distance, and the defender quickly slammed home the deflection before sprinting toward the home end to mark the goal, with supporters mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory completed an unbelievable comeback given Swansea had trailed 2-0 midway through the latter period. During the celebrations, there was some collateral damage. He shared, "There was a spectator shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The victory booked a next round game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about way out going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that range," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right wing-back after Orient changed shape. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the winger was among the City players who complimented the way his former team played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are very good but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they always find their target and they know how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're all right and then without warning they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and focus just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a popular figure across a couple of years at Orient and has quickly replicated that in Wales. At his previous team he reunited with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a spell at lower division Salford, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into men's football. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears play is circulated without much intensity. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to adjust fast."

International Recognition

His progress reflects that growth for his team and nation, shining for his national side, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including home and away fixtures against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Starting Out

This represents a remarkable path for the youngster from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his father, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

Galbraith's sole appearance for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was closed owing to the weather of bitter cold. "It was a long trip and it was chilly," he comments, chuckling. "The week before, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I understood I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I thought I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

Life in Swansea

It is mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's so-called player transport, a team vehicle driven by academy staff, the transport team, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to socialize with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the next one to drive independently and behind the wheel. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would mix with supporters on London's Central line after commuting at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
