Courageous Train Employee Endures Severe Injuries During Mass Stabbing Incident on High-Speed Train

A courageous train staff member who intervened to protect travelers during a multiple knife incident on a express train has suffered life-threatening wounds, police confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Incident

Surveillance footage allegedly shows the staff member trying to stop the attacker as the train traveled between a city and another station in the county. Bystanders described a frightening 14-minute duration after the train left Peterborough, with injured passengers running through compartments.

The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, is in detention for questioning. Police declared a major event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Emergency Reaction and Aftermath

The event on the weekend resulted in 11 people being cared for in medical facilities after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Five people have now been discharged from medical care.

A bystander recorded the individual brandishing a large knife and being shot with a stun device as he faced police on the platform. He was allegedly heard shouting, "Kill me, end my life."

“This terrible incident has affected many people. We are thinking of the victims and their families – especially the courageous member of rail staff whose relatives are being supported by specialist personnel,” said a high-ranking police officer.

Union Reaction and Appeals for Action

Rail unions were quick to praise staff and call for more measures. One union leader stated he would be “requesting immediate meetings with government, rail employers and police to guarantee that we have the strongest possible assistance, tools and robust procedures in place”.

A different union representative urged the rail company and authorities “to move quickly to examine security, to support the affected workers, and to ensure nothing like this occurs again”.

Driver Praised for Quick Thinking

The operator who stopped the service at Huntingdon was described as being “deeply affected” but “well”, and has been praised by union officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“The driver didn’t halt the service in the center of two stations where it’s obviously difficult for the first responders to access, but he carried on traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much waiting,” explained a association representative.

Further Details

Police stated they received the first distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the train was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One witness recounted at first thinking if the event was a holiday joke, but quickly realized from individuals' faces that it was serious.

Police have confirmed there is no evidence to indicate the incident was a terrorist incident and have requested the public to provide with any additional details.

Rail services on the affected line are expected to experience disruption until the following day, with travelers recommended to defer their travel where feasible.

Individuals with details that could help the inquiry are encouraged to contact police by sending a message a specific number with a reference code.
