Alarming Video Reveals Point Police Suffer Blade Attacks in Ambush
One ranking policeman that leaped to the aid of a fellow officer that got attacked by a knifeman was granted the Monarch's Honor for Courage.
Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a weapon to the neck of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the officers and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver after a traffic accident in Whalley Range in mid-2023.
Brown knifed and cut both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.
"Officer stabbed," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his radio.
Officer-mounted and dashboard camera recording shared by the agency revealed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood up, rush to Sgt Foster from the rear with a blade extended.
He ran into the officer who lost balance and dropped to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the ground even though being multiple times hit with the knife.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a clear shot, bringing the struggle to an finish.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "I need help on my throat here, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell sustained two deep cuts to his neck and additional injuries to his arms and body, while Sergeant Foster experienced cut injuries.
Officials said Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stem his fellow officer's bleeding before paramedics arrived.
This most recent award comes after the trio of policemen were granted departmental Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the area Police Federation in April 2024.
They were also awarded a Regional Valor Recognition in mid-2024.
"The responses of the entire team eventually rescued themselves and resulted in no bystanders suffered any wounds."
Brown was given to an secure medical confinement in early 2024, per the department.
